A new industrial partnership: Technopuce obtains the Calypso licence.
|

Calypso is an interoperability standard for card-terminal ticketing and is open to multi application environments developed by transport operators.
Calypso’s technology, validated on an international scale, is based on the following items:
* Contactless communication ISO / IEC 14 443 B compliant, which uses high-performing software in order to guarantee fast and reliable transmission.
* A safe architecture with diversified keys, authentification and signed data based on DES, DESX and triple DES algorithms.
* An evolving and standard transport application (ISO 7816-4 and ENV 1545), the result of ten years of experience and designed to meet the wide-ranging needs of the operators (multi-contract management, interoperability, etc.).
* An association mechanism that works with any electronic purse. Compliance with the Calypso specifications guarantees compatibility with the transport network systems of the numerous European towns that have chosen the Calypso solution.
With its “Emergency call” applications and “Monitoring of passenger related statistics” designed specially for urban transport, it seemed natural that Technopuce should become a Calypso partner. This license will enable Technopuce to further extend its development potential in the transport network sector.
Technopuce already works in close collaboration with the RATP within the scope of the deployment of its technology in pilot stations of the Paris Métro.

An exceptional environment now awaits Technopuce’s clients, since the company has moved its Paris office to the 33rd floor of the Maine Montparnasse tower, thus enabling its visitors to benefit from an exceptional view over Paris and the Eiffel Tower.
The site was nevertheless chosen for practical reasons. In addition to its location right in the center of Paris, the public transport facilities are excellent (metro lines, buses and station nearby) as are the parking facilities (car park under the tower).
An access map will be soon available under the “Maps” heading on the site.

Technopuce Technology takes off in Boston
|

Paris, France, March 23, 2002 - Technopuce, known as Acti-Tag, made its foray into the US market at the Smart Labels Conference 2002, held at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge on March 21 - 22. The conference played host to a number of RFID label manufacturers, the vast majority of whom offer no more than passive applications. Technopuce generated great interest here because it develops applications for its patented active RFID technology.
Over 160 participants gathered at the Smart Labels Conference, and both exhibitors of RFID technology as well as end-users attending the conference to learn more about RFID were very impressed by the Technopuce technology. Prestigious visitors to the Technopuce booth at the show included representatives from the US Department of Defence, the Pentagon, MIT’s Auto ID Center, General Motors, British Airways, and the UK Home Office.
Technopuce CEO Philippe Lemaire was pleased at the company’s success during the show. “We’ve made a number of very promising business contacts here this week,” said Lemaire. “We are very pleased to see that our innovative technology will continue to serve not only our European clients but will also be beneficial to our US clients. We look forward to working with them.”
Technopuce’s Acti-Tag uses active RFID technology to provide high reading speeds and long read ranges of up to 150 meters – operating at high-frequency ranges of 433 MHz or 868/915 MHz. (The tag also makes use of transponder technology for short-range communications distances of up to 1 meter operating at frequencies of 125 kHz or 13.56 MHz.) A thin, flexible 3.6V lithium/manganese oxide primary battery is integrated into the Acti-Tag radio frequency circuitry, which gives the tag optimum response performance during periods of peak current requirements.
The Acti-Tag can be equipped with a number of embedded sensors, which enable it to carry out real time continuous monitoring of such critical parameters as temperature, vibrations, humidity, motion, and stress. The smart card format can also support an alarm, and as such is currently being tested in mass transit and security applications.
